Kinja'd!!!

On Saturday while at a strip mall by my house I came across a white C63 in the parking lot, I motioned the window down and there was a beautiful Thai looking chick driving it with (presumably) her man in the passenger seat, I asked her to rev it for me and she smiled and did (her man did not even understand what I was asking her to do, so I'll safely assume it wasn't his car). It sounded glorious and left me looking up used C63s on CarMax that night and possibly questioning my relationship (kidding babe!).

Last night I had a dream that a family member of mine owned a dealership and had just got a C63 traded in. I remember explaining to them my desire to own one and they told me they'd give it to me for free as long as I made the future payments every month, upon receiving the keys I woke up! Talk about a nightmare!

Fast forward to today I'm telling my security guard about the car from Saturday and showing him pictures of the car as well as the dream I had. I shit you not a freaking white C63 pre facelift with black wheels drives by the front of my job and I jump up and yell look that's the car.

TL;DR

I am obsessed with a C63 and it is obsessed with me.

There were two at my C&C yesterday. I think they're awesome, but one sounded terrible, one sounded pretty decent on the overrun, but not under power.

I'm just not sure....

Don't do it. Wait 1 or 2 years and buy an F-Type V8S. The exhaust is leaps and bounds better.

Had to be something wrong with both, maybe a mod or a tune that muted the proper growl.

I won't argue that the F Type sounds even better.

I will concede that a 2 door coupe is not always very practical. Though the trunk on the coupe is huge. (For a 500hp 2 seat sports car)

Even the V6S sounds amazing. And I'd get that if you're looking at the coupe since the V8R (coupe) isn't going to go down much in price. I least, that's my prediction considering they're stopping making in in RWD and it will only be AWD from now on.

Yeah, I agree. I cannot wait to drive the manual V6 either. If anything, just because it will make throttle blipping easier.

Hah I had no choice man this C63 want is now invading my subconscious as well as popping up by my job. What's crazy is that in every instance since Saturday it's been a white C63 and I don't even like white cars. Is God trying to tell me that he's going to gift me a C63?! Should I play the lotto?

i didn't like the transmission at all

it kind of ruined dat great engine

Never driven one, I heard anything before the face lift had a laggy transmission but can be remapped via the various tunes that were available. The 7G Tronic in my 14' C300 had a bunch of throttle lag but I ended up buying a Sprintbooster from an Oppo member here that removes the lag. Even their DCT in the CLA is pretty jerky from what I've read.

Truth be told as big of a MB fan I am I still think they are really really dumb for wasting their time developing their own transmissions when excellent, tested and proven 8 speeds from ZF exist. It's a no brainer they save a ton on R&D and get a smooth and quick shifting unit from ZF.

It's not like Porsche with their PDK which outshines about every other automatic out there, MB isn't ever going to reach that level unless they poach a shit of engineers from them.

Ah it may have been pre face lift. It was SUPER laggy. So lame.

I know it's so funny how MB loves to build their own transmissions! So expensive and the third parties make better stuff anyways.

Even Porsche may not be 100% responsible for PDK. They may have used a DCT box from one of the usual suppliers and just done a really good job tuning it for their cars.

The facelift C63's have the wet clutch MCT transmission which is much faster and better than the older ones.

ZF transmissions are absolute garbage as far as quality is concerned, and terrible to work on. Sure, they're fantastic when they're working, but there is no way in hell that I or anyone I know would own one outside of warranty unless it was an old 5 speed or older. Mercedes transmission have their issues, but they're easy to fix and when properly maintained last a long long time.

AMG GT > F-type R > 204 C63

The F didn't feel that confident to me at speed around corners. And the interior was underwhelming for its price. Fantastic car, don't get me wrong, and definitely not one to be overlooked. It just has much more in the looks and sounds department than anything else. If I had the money I would alternate between the GT and the F, depending on my mood (among other cars).

Really I had not heard about ZF transmissions being trash but I trust your judgement since you are in the industry. I'm sure the transmission in the AMG GTs and newer C63 is amazing too. What's the deal with 7G tronic lag? The Sprintbooster I got definitely helped but I was surprised at the difference.

The GT doesn't share it's trans with anything else, except for maybe Ferrari and Maserati type stuff, rear mount transaxle. 205 C63 is much better than 204.

Mostly the lag is in the software. A tune from someone like RennTech will make it pretty much non-existent. Remember that a lot of Mercedes customers still want a slushy soft ride, even if they buy AMG. But that is one reason why now everything has a bunch of settings to change the feel and performance. The sprintbooster, IIRC, helps throttle lag, not trans lag, but it's the same story really.

V6 manual will be amazing. V6S with paddles though is still a great car. I used to work at a luxury car dealership that had 11 different brands including Jaguar. I knew those guys really well, so when the new dealership demos for the coupes came in, the salesman and a few others of us got to take them all for a "test drive" so that we could be fully knowledgeable of the vehicles capabilities for when clients came it to look at them. I got to take the black/black V6S Coupe out first through a little blast through Downtown. I had it in full Dynamic Mode and the exhaust open, and holy mother of God, the sound that reverberated off of the buildings was amazing. Needless to say, I attracted some unwanted attention, and it wasn't the cops, lol. I had some kid in a riced out Honda Accord start tailing me with his camera phone, trying to keep up. Once we made it to the Connector, I ditched him and made a new friend on a Harley who wanted to have an exhaust competition at a red light. Looking back at it now, I really wish I had gone ahead and invested in a GoPro then. Ah well, yadda yadda hindsight and all that shit.

I really do miss that job, until I remember how little I was getting paid...

Tell me about it, I mean it's my first car so it's definitely adequate. But its like blood in the water to a shark, I need more., debating on getting a tune that'll give me 320 HP 296 lb ft up from 250/240-ish to hold me down, it's pretty cheap.

Kinja'd!!!1

If you go for the tune make sure it's from a reputable company, i.e. RennTech. And if you have any major component issues MB can tell if the software has been tampered with and they will not hesitate to void your warranty if it has. Though they may not even check to see if that is the case.

Kinja'd!!! Rico > AMGtech - now with more recalls!

The company will likely be Kleeman or Eurocharged. For some reason Renntech believes that the C300 is NOT a detuned C350 engine though Kleeman has been quick to disagree. Renntech claims only a 15 HP/10 Lb ft difference with the tune while Kleeman claims that the same gains that can be made on a C350 can be made on the C300 hence the higher numbers in my previous post. Also doesn't help that Renntech is charging $1000 for those numbers while Kleeman is charging half that.

Since you work with these cars maybe you can chime in, is the 300 a detuned 350 engine or are they really not at all alike.

Normally we don't pay any attention to displacement, because it doesn't really matter to what we do in a dealer shop. We differentiate all of the engine variants by their engine numbers (276957xxxxxxxxxxx). But this intrigued me so I went through all of the documentation I could find. As far as I can tell, pretty much every NA m276 is the same 3.5L unit, with the same part numbers for cranks, pistons, cams, etc. Only the turbo version is lower at 3.0L. I will check some cars when I get a chance.

Cool thanks for this info, this is pretty much what Kleeman/Eurocharged had said when asked if by tuning a 300 to 350 levels would that cause any strain on internal components, that the two engines were the same mechanically just detuned electronically for the 300.

I've got Service A coming up this month on my car (even though I've only recently hit 5,200 miles, weekend driver only) is there any reason I should wait until after Service A to get the tune?

No. Waiting won't make any difference.

I wonder if RennTech was talking about the older m272 300/350. Those were different engines.

Perhaps looking closer at their site it does in fact list the specs of the older 2012 C300 that produced 228HP. All that we are waiting for (group buy on mbworld.org) is for Eurocharged to show the graphs from their dyno, their Rep has been communicating with us on the forum regularly saying that they are getting a new AWD dyno installed at their facility and will get the numbers up as soon as possible.

Nice. I've had good experience with eurocharged. Never used them on Mercedes though, my shop is a RennTech distributor. While their products are quite good their prices are outrageous and installation instructions horrendous.
